Lips are beautiful part of human body that help us to smile, express our feelings and a wonderful thing for kissing. The real name of the lip is ‘the vermilion boarder’. We use lips all the time and it becomes necessary for us to keep our lips healthy. It is quite different from the skin on our body and it is a mucous membrane inside the mouth. The thick layer called cornified tissue does not protect our lips as it protects rest of our body. Our lips have few layers of skin that causes the blood vessels to be closer to the lips. Our lips are rosy red because of this blood vessel. The lips dry out very fast and burn also due to the lack of thick layer protection. The pigmentation of the lips is also less when compared to the skin. The first step to protect the lips from burning during summer and winter is to apply lip balm. The lip balm should contain protective sunscreen. In winter the lips dry out very badly. The dry air in winter dehydrates the lips and cause problems. People tend to lick the lips when they feel dry. Unfortunately, licking worsens the problem as the saliva evaporates and makes drier. To maintain healthy lips, apply lip balm.
The next step to maintain healthy and kissable lips is avoided biting. Biting lips leads to dryness of lips. If one cannot avoid the habit, it is better to apply lip balm often, as it will help to moisten the lip. Another best way is applying petroleum jelly on the lips in the night. It is better to apply at night, as it looks weird when it is applied in the day. This maintains the moisture in the lips and also prevents the water loss from lips thus ensuring attractive kissable lips.

There is an excellent old method to keep the lips healthy. Brush the lips everyday after brushing the teeth. Toothbrush helps to clean the crannies and also removes the dead skin of the lips. Separate toothbrush can also be used for lips. The best way is to brush it in the night and apply Vaseline overnight after brushing. Apply carmex on the lips that helps to remove the dead skin and also gives a healthy look. Applying lip-gloss adds beauty to the lips. There is product called ‘beezwax’ that can be applied on lips. This makes the lips very soft. Another home remedy is by scrubbing the lips with lemon juice with a bit of sugar mixed in it. Apply almond oil after scrubbing which makes the lips soft and healthy.
The lip becomes healthy and soft and ready for kissing when one follows the above remedies.
