Lip care during winter

Face is the reflection of the individual’s personality. Soft and smooth face indicates the physical beauty of the body. Mouth is an important aspect of face, which helps us in many ways like smiling, talking and of course eating. Lips have a thin outer layer, which lack oil glands, and so they tend to get cracked and dry easily. Winter is one season when the skin experiences such problems. Harsh weather and very cold climatic condition make the soft lips unappealing and would be painful in some cases. The lips are extremely sensitive skin, appear cracked, bleed and look unnaturally red. One of the important steps to maintain a sexiest lip is to protect them from sun. This can be achieved by applying a water resistant lip balm. These lip balms have a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 percent.

The lips need to be lubricated and rehydrated by us. This can be done by drinking plenty of water, and hydrate the skin including lips with water. Applying lip balm will protect your lips from harsh weather conditions. Do not remove the skin from the lips with fingers or lick your lips, as it would irritate the skin. Ensure your food intake has vitamin supplements, including vitamin B2. Lip balms are best therapy to protect the lip skin cells from different climate conditions. Lipstick and lip-gloss help maintain the lips and do have cosmetic properties too. There are many manufactures use different ingredients in making lip balm products. Petroleum jellies, waxes, camphor, Shea butter are some of the common ingredients used in manufacture of different lip balms. These ingredients form an occlusive layer and maintain the moisture in lips to protect it.

The lip balm using petroleum jelly as the major constituent has a temporary relief. It does not help in increasing the moisture absorption of the skin. Shea butter is better alternative to petroleum jel. It has been proved that Shea butter has better moisture absorbing capacity for the lips. It also helps the skin to recover the elasticity. Many medicated lip balms available in the market use ingredients such as menthol, camphor to reduce the pain and maintain the smoothness of the lips. These types of lip balms also soothe the skin. Most of the lip balms have sun protection and have a SPF factor of more than 4. Most of the manufactures use flavors in the lip balms, by using mint, cherry and strawberry flavors to make it popular with young ones.

For healthy lips dermatologist have suggested some therapies, which could help maintain the moisture. Some of the tips have be briefed – place the warm water dipped tea bags on the lips three to four times, clean the lipstick before going to bed using herbal cleanser and apply ghee on the lips. Applying herbal moisturizing lotion on lips acts as a protection to lips. Ensure to apply a thin coat of the balm before using a cosmetic lipstick. Using collagen will protect wrinkle formation around the lips. Exfoliate the lips with soft toothbrush and honey to keep them supple. There are many resources in the Internet to help you keep soft and soothing lips.
